MUNICIPAL HOUSE

It was built between 1906 – 1911, designed by A. Balšánek and O. Polívka in the spirit of the high art nouveau style on the place of the former Royal Courtyard next to the Powder Tower, directly in the heart of downtown Prague. Its interior decoration is the joint work of prominent Czech artists, a few of which are Alfons Mucha, Max Švabinský, Jan Preisler, Ladislav Šaloun and Josef Mařatka. The core of this building is the notably imposing Smetana Hall which is adjacent to other richly decorated parlours being favourite locations for all kinds of social events. The Sladkovský Room, Riegr Room, Primátorský Room, Palacký and Grégr Rooms, etc.
